The Warren County Foundation is requesting proposals
for its first Program Initiative Grants. For the first time
since the Foundation was created five years ago, the organization
has set aside funds for a specific area of community concern
and is inviting interested Warren County non-profits to apply.
Having chosen to focus these initial grants
toward the needs of children, this initiative has been titled
"Children First," and the program calls for two
$5,000 grants to be awarded this spring.
The RFP states: "The primary goal of this
program is to enable two Warren County organizations to implement
programs that will be of benefit to area children. It is understood
that children also benefit from programs that benefit families.
Therefore, programs that focus on families will also be considered.
The Warren County Foundation recognizes that there are many
worthwhile programs and activities that do not come to fruition
for lack of money. It is the foundation's hope that, by providing
these grants, two such worthwhile projects may be implemented."
To receive a project application form and instructions,
interested organizations may contact the Warren County Foundation
at 118 East Main Street, Lebanon, OH, 45036; telephone (513)
934-1001;
fax (513) 934-3001.

RELEASE: February 28, 2002
The Trustees of the Warren County Foundation
have awarded a grant of $2,000.00 to New Housing Opportunities,
Inc., to assist with the creation of "Three-Quarter-Way
Houses" for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts.
The grant will be used in establishing a revolving
fund of $25,000, from which NHO will draw money in order to
lease and furnish a suitable property that will be sublet,
initially, to a group of single men. As the house establishes
itself and begins to sustain itself financially, money from
the revolving fund will used to establish a second house,
and so on.
"The Grants Committee of the Warren County
Foundation was particularly struck by the need for such facilities
in Warren County and the creative programmatic and funding
approaches offered through this program," stated WCF

The Susan K. Bartalo High School Art Scholarship
Fund has been established at the Warren County Foundation,
according to Robert J. Elias, President and CEO of the Foundation.
Mrs. Bartalo, an art teacher in the Western Reserve Local
School District for seven years, passed away in November,
following a long struggle with cancer.
The scholarship fund was the idea of Mrs. Bartalo's
husband, Stephen D. Bartalo of Centerville, and money to initiate
the fund was contributed by family, friends and students.
"Mr. Bartalo chose to remember his wife
in this very meaningful way, and we at the Warren County Foundation
are very happy to be of assistance," said Mr. Elias.
According to the scholarship guidelines established by Mr.
Bartalo, one scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduating
Springboro High School senior who intends to study art education
or fine arts at a college or university. Mr. and Mrs. Bartalo's
daughter, Lauren, graduated from Springboro High School in
1998.

RELEASE: December 3, 2001
Twenty-eight children of firefighters from New
York City's Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion Nine, were left
fatherless following the tragic events of September 11, and
the Lebanon Police Department is doing something to make Christmas
just a little better for those kids.
The LPD has established the "New York Police
and Fire Christmas Fund" at the Warren County Foundation
as a means to collect money to be used for gifts for these
children. On Wednesday, December 5, representatives of several
Lebanon city departments are appearing at the Lebanon K-Mart
and WalMart stores to accept donations directly. In addition,
donations to the fund of any size will also be accepted at
the Warren County Foundation through December 11.
Because the Foundation is a charitable organization,
under IRS rules all contributions to the Fund are tax-deductible.
